Larry Wallis

Larry Wallis (19. toukokuuta 1949 – 19. syyskuuta 2019[1]) oli englantilainen kitaristi, joka parhaiten muistetaan Pink Fairiesin kitaristi-laulajana sekä Motörheadin alkuperäisenä kitaristina.

Alkuajat

Wallis aloitti uransa 1960-luvulla ja hänen ensimmäinen tunnetumpi yhtyeensä oli underground-hahmojen Steve Peregrin Tookin ja Mick Farrenin Shagrat. Tämän jälkeen hän vaikutti lyhyen aikaa Blodwyn Pigissä kunnes liittyi UFO-yhtyeeseen vuonna 1972. UFO-pesti jäi kuitenkin lyhyeksi Wallisin riitaannuttua laulaja Phil Moggin kanssa[2].

Pink Fairies

Vuonna 1973 Larry Wallis liittyi Pink Fairiesiin kitaristi-laulajaksi. Hän oli työskennellyt jo aiemmin Fairies-jäsenten kanssa eri projekteissa. Yhtye julkaisi hyvin vastaanotetun albumin Kings of Oblivion. Bändi ei ollut kuitenkaan pitkäikäinen Wallisin ja muiden jäsenten erimielisyyksien takia[3]. Fairies on kuitenkin aktivoitunut vuosien mittaan muutaman kerran ja tehnyt levytyksiäkin.

Motörhead

Vuonna 1975 Lemmy Kilmisterin saatua potkut Hawkwindista, hän päätti perustaa oman yhtyeen, Motörheadin. Kitaristiksi hän kutsui Larry Wallisin ja rumpaliksi tuli Lucas Fox, jonka korvasi pian kuitenkin Phil Taylor. Tämä versio levytti albumillisen musiikkia, jonka levy-yhtiö kuitenkin hylkäsi. Pian Kilmister otti mukaan toiseksi kitaristiksi Eddie Clarken, jonka jälkeen Wallis erosi yhtyeestä. Hänen ja Kilmisterin välit olivat tiettävästi kireät ja levy-yhtiön huono kohtelu vaikutti myös Wallisin päätökseen[4]. Wallisin kanssa tehty albumi, On Parole, julkaistiin vuonna 1979.

Muut projektit

Motörheadin jälkeen Wallis meni Stiff Records -yhtiöön tuottajaksi ja muusikoksi. Hän soitti myös Mick Farrenin projekteissa sekä myös Steve Peregrin Tookin kanssa. 1980-luvulla hänellä oli omia yhtyeitä sekä projekteja Pink Fairiesin kanssa. Jonkin aikaa hän soitti myös MC5-yhtyeestä tutun Wayne Kramerin yhtyeessä. 1990-luvulla hänellä oli yhtye Dr. Feelgoodin jäsenten kanssa.

Viime vuodet

Vuonna 2002 Wallis julkaisi ensimmäisen sooloalbuminsa Death in the Guitarfternoon. Myös Pink Fairiesin uudesta tulemisesta on liikkunut huhuja. Helmikuussa 2007 Pink Fairiesin oli tarkoitus esiintyä Lontoon Roundhousessa, mutta keikka peruuntui Wallisin sairastuttua[5].
